Fabrication

These qualifications have been designed to develop skills in the use of digital applications and 3D printing techniques.

About this subject area

The Open College Network West Midlands Level 1 Award in Digital Fabrication has been designed to give learners an understanding of digital fabrication and 3D printing.

This qualification allows learners to develop skills in the use of digital applications for design and development projects for areas as diverse as creative arts and manufacturing and to create objects using 3D printing techniques.

The Open College Network West Midlands Level 2 Award in Digital Fabrication has recently been added to develop an attractive suite of qualifications within this specific subject area.

This qualification enables learners to progress from the Level 1 Award, and learners will be able to apply an understanding of how 2-dimensional design can translate into a 3-dimensional object. This level 2 qualification allows learners to develop further skills in the use of digital applications for design and development projects, and to create objects using 3D printing techniques.

These qualifications also supports the demand for science related qualifications to promote science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subject uptake more widely.
