Employability and Development Skills

These qualifications offer opportunities to a range of learners to gain knowledge and skills in a variety of subject areas; providing a flexible approach to study, whilst enabling learners to sample different vocational areas.

About this subject area

These qualifications now contain specific vocational pathways.

In order to gain a Certificate with an Endorsed Pathway, Centres simply need to set up their course against the pre-set programme.

Learner certificates will then read “Open College Network West Midlands Level x Certificate in Employability and Development Skills (Pathway name).

Centres may still choose a generic pathway, with a flexible selection of units to provide a 6-credit award, a 15-credit certificate and a 37-credit diploma.

Credits gained in an Award may count towards a Certificate or Diploma in subsequent years or on the learner’s next programme.

Credits from pathway and generic qualifications may be combined to allow learners to progress to the larger Diploma qualification.

It is possible to register learners in the same cohort on different level qualifications and we have worked hard to make sure that units are available across all levels from Entry 3 to Level 2.

Our Employability and Development Skills qualifications also form part of our Supported and Foundation Learning Programmes.
