Business Skills

These qualifications provide business personnel with a broad range of skills to work efficiently and to help increase productivity within organisations.

About this subject area

Around 3.2 million people help to keep businesses running in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

Administrators need a broad range of skills to work efficiently and to help increase business productivity.

Skills shortages identified by organisations include a lack of:

  • office and administration skills
  • customer-handling skills
  • technical and practical skills
  • oral communication skills and IT skills,

...all of which are covered within this qualification.

These qualifications will ensure that staff are trained to fill skills shortages and deal with technological changes. This will result in a more capable, knowledgeable, administrative workforce for businesses.

These qualifications also form the core requirements of the Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeships in Business Administration (England).

The minimum age for this qualification is 16.

There are no formal entry requirements for learners undertaking this qualification; however centres must ensure that learners have the potential and opportunity to gain evidence for the competency units in the work place.
