Servicing Medical Equipment

These qualifications form part of the Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacture (England) Pathway 5: Engineering Maintenance

  • Open College Network West Midlands Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Servicing Medical Equipment - 601/8764/5

The Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (Servicing Medical Equipment) and the Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Servicing Medical Equipment have been specifically written to form part of an apprenticeship for the Medical Engineering sector.  The qualification provides individuals with subject knowledge and practical skills to fill a Medical Engineering role.

The qualifications combined will last a minimum of 2 years and will provide an excellent insight to all aspects of medical engineering.  You will learn fundamental techniques to fault find, service and maintain medical equipment.

The qualifications also provide opportunities for those already working in the Medical Equipment Technology sector to gain formal qualifications for roles they currently hold. These qualifications can also provide learners with the knowledge and skills to adapt existing skills and knowledge in engineering to develop new skills in the servicing medical equipment industry.

Objectives of the qualifications
•         provide a comprehensive insight to medical engineering leading to a career in the medical engineering sector.
•         prepare learners for further qualifications within the medical engineering sector such as the Open College Network West Midlands Level 5 Diploma in Medical Equipment Technologies.

The qualifications are designed for learners with no experience or qualifications in medical engineering, although it is preferred that learners will have demonstrated a keen interest in Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Learners may already be working in a hospital or dental setting, or may be looking to gain employment in these settings.

The competency units within the Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (Servicing Medical Equipment) must be assessed in line with Semta Engineering NVQ Level 2, 3 and 4 QCF Unit Assessment Strategy which can be found below.
