These qualifications equip staff and volunteers working in the sexual violence sector to work with clients requiring support after experiencing rape or sexual violence.
 
The qualifications are designed to enable individuals to:
  • increase knowledge of issues related to working with survivors of rape and sexual abuse;
  • gain practical skills to support clients by telephone and face-to-face;
  • learn about the legal system and how it relates to rape and sexual violence;
  • consider equality and diversity issues relating to survivors of sexual violence;
  • develop an awareness of coping strategies developed by survivors of sexual abuse.
 
Advocacy for Working with Survivors of Sexual Violence
  • Open College Network West Midlands Level 3 Award in Advocacy for Working with Survivors of Sexual Violence - 603/1052/2

This Award consists of 6 one credit units at Level 3. The qualification is designed for learners working in Rape Crisis Centres or taking the role of Independent Sexual Violence Adviser (ISVA). It will enable learners to gain knowledge and skills to support survivors of sexual violence in practical and emotional ways.

 

Independent Sexual Violence (ISVA) Practitioner Training

  • Open College Network West Midlands Level 4 Diploma in Independent Sexual Violence (ISVA) Practitioner Training - 603/4968/2

The qualification is designed to:

  • accredit individuals who already work as an ISVA in the rape and sexual violence sector;
  • encourage individuals to engage in learning and develop their knowledge and understanding of the ISVA practitioner role and improve their skills;
  • consider the effects on wellbeing of those working with sexual violence;
  • provide support for all adults, children, young people and families affected by sexual violence;
  • carry out a risk assessment and safety planning when working with survivors of sexual violence;
  • support survivors of sexual violence through the Criminal Justice System or to seek Civil redress;
  • present a person-centred approach to supporting all survivors of rape and sexual violence.
 
The minimum age for access to these qualifications is 18 years.
