The Open College Network West Midlands Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) England has been designed to provide learners with the underpinning knowledge and practical skills to enable them to work in the health and/or care sectors.  Learners will cover underpinning knowledge and skills that are also transferable to care settings for children and young people, dependent upon the units chosen.

Objectives of the qualification

This qualification can be used flexibly to meet learner needs. Depending on the context of the learning and the needs of each individual learner, the qualification can:

  • prepare individuals to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding;
  • prepare learners for employment;
  • support a role in the workplace;

This qualification has been designed to enable learners to:

Understand key aspects of their role in health and social care in relation to:

  • communication
  • learning and development
  • diversity and inclusion
  • health and safety
  • information handling

 Carry out practical tasks such as:

  • administer medication, or take venous blood samples in a health and social care setting

This qualification will also enable learners to work more widely in the Health and Social Care area by studying units such as:

  • Dementia Awareness
  • Person Centred Approaches in Health and Social Care
  • Understanding Mental Health Problems
  • Principles of Supporting Individuals with a Learning Disability to Access Healthcare

It is a requirement that assessment of this qualification is conducted in English.

The Open College Network West Midlands Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) England is accredited by Ofqual.

The minimum age for access to this qualification is 16 years.
