Open College Network West Midlands Centres: Lifetime learning for all

Building and Construction

These qualifications form part of the Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Construction (Building) England

  • Open College Network West Midlands Level 2 Diploma in Principles of Multi-skilled Repair and Refurbishment (Construction Maintenance Operations) - 601/8692/6
  • Open College Network West Midlands Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Building Maintenance Multi-trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations (Construction) - 601/8693/8

Construction building craft occupations have a traditional role in supplying a qualified workforce to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In order to support these organisations and their workforce we have designed these qualifications to provide the underpinning knowledge of working in specific trades within construction as well as confirming the competency required to carry out the required tasks.

There are currently almost 2 million trades people working in construction. They include:

  • Bricklayers
  • Wood Trades and Interior Fit outs
  • Painters and Decorators
  • Construction professionals and technical staff

These qualifications have been designed to enable learners to:

  • work safely in a construction environment;
  • prepare surfaces for papering, painting, plastering and finishing;
  • repair, refurbish and maintain woodwork, stone and brickwork, flat and pitched roofs and roofing membranes;
  • carry out tiling, painting and wallpapering;
  • provide customer service in a construction environment.

On completion of these qualifications learners can enter into employment as, but not be limited to Maintenance Operators within a multi-trade environment.

The minimum age for access to these qualifications is 16.

All of the competency units within the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Building Maintenance Multi-trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations (Construction) qualification must be assessed in line with ConstructionSkills Consolidated Assessment Strategy for Construction and the Built Environment which can be found below.

In order to deliver a qualification, centres must meet the requirements to deliver the qualification (which can be found in the Qualification Guide) and complete the Qualification Approval Form (QAF).
