Preparation for Work and Study Qualifications Launched

Friday, 9 October 2020

Many employers now value skills and qualifications in much the same way as they value workplace experience.

Whilst gaining experience can be challenging, for some learners, gaining qualifications and skills, at the appropriate level may prove more so.

For many reasons, some learners are unable to access A Levels and traditional routes into Further and Higher Education. For example:
  • Some learners may lack the appropriate study skills or subject specific knowledge required to undertake an Access to Higher Education Diploma or progress onto other Level 3 programmes in their chosen field.
  • Other learners may be retraining following a period of unemployment, a recent change in life circumstances or merely to increase their potential in employment.
These learners may simply need to update or refresh existing skills or gain new knowledge and skills to progress further in their field.

To support these groups of diverse learners, we have worked with Stoke On Trent College and a range of other providers to develop a suite of flexible qualifications designed to meet the needs of these learner groups:
  • Adult returners to Education and Training wanting to retrain or upskill in the existing sector or train in a new area/sector
  • Learners who have not been through mainstream education to Level 2 who wish to continue their studies or professional development
  • Learners for whom English is not their mother-tongue who may require additional English and study skills to succeed
By providing a flexible range of units across different sizes of qualification, we believe our brand-new Level 2 Award and Certificate in Preparation for Work and Study qualifications will help to prepare your learners for Level 3 study or sustainable self-employment in their chosen field.

Why Choose This Qualification?

Studying at Level 3 can be challenging for adult learners, particularly if they have been out of education for some time and need to develop their subject knowledge further.

Our Work and Study qualifications can help provide the additional support and preparation required by your learners, and are also suitable for:
  • those returning to study after a break
  • those moving into part-time study online
  • those who want to develop skills in business and entrepreneurship to move into sustainable self-employment.

We are pleased to announce the following qualifications are now available for registrations and are eligible for funding:

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

With an increasing number of learners for whom English is a second, or other language wishing to access study and self-employment skills at this level, these qualifications are also suitable for learners who have completed an ESOL course and wish to pursue further learning.

Pre-Access Qualifications

We have an additional range of Pre-Access qualifications at Level 2 that are also eligible for funding and have been designed to get your learners ready for Level 3 learning.

We have embedded study skills into the assessment strategy for these qualifications.
