Art Competition winner announced!
Open College Network West Midlands is pleased to announce the winner of our Art for the Office Learner Competition.
Launched in January 2022, the competition encouraged learners on creative courses in recognised centres to submit an entry to the competition in a bid to brighten up our newly decorated offices and training rooms.
Learners were invited to submit pictures of their artwork which reflected one or more of the Open College Network West Midlands Values: INTEGRITY, CLARITY, COLLABORATION, ASPIRATION, EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION, INCLUSION.
The winning entry came from 63-year-old Bernadette Brady, who is a learner at Adult Education Wolverhampton. Bernadette submitted a watercolour abstract painting which represents Open College Network West Midlands’ Collaboration and Aspiration values and symbolises the feelings of the Adult Education Wolverhampton’s art group and how they imagine colour surrounds them as they paint on canvas.
“The Adult Education Service has enabled me and fellow students to have the use of an art studio which has allowed me to learn and feel supported by inspirational tuition and learning from other students in collaboration, with support from the Adult Education Service and its educational resources.
“My creative learning development and practical experience have encouraged my self-confidence and belief that I have the potential and Aspiration to become a full-time artist”.Bernadette Brady
Open College Network West Midlands will award Bernadette a cash prize of £150 for her winning submission and her watercolour piece will be displayed in our office in Wolverhampton.
Edward Rowe and Shaun Barker, learners from recognised centre and independent specialist college, Freeman College, were joint runners up in the competition with their submission of a 3D pewter tea cup mounted on a larch wood backing. Edward and Shaun will be awarded a £25.00 voucher for their sterling effort and their artwork will also be displayed at Open College Network West Midlands headquarters.
Thank you to all the learners who took part in the competition and congratulations to the worthy winners!
