Arrangements for the award of Access to HE Diplomas

Wednesday, 20 January 2021

Arrangements for the award and assessment of the Access to HE Diploma 2021 have been published by QAA.

The publication explains how all AVAs will ensure that quality, standards and student outcomes will be maintained for Diplomas awarded in 2020-21. This will not include the estimation of grades, therefore the QAA grading scheme will apply. Centres will be able to adapt their delivery, assessments and/or change units delivered in order to support teaching and learning, mitigate any possible effects of previous or future disruptions and safeguard against any future disruptions relating to the pandemic. Any such adaptations will need to be reported to the AVA with a rationale.
All Providers have been sent a copy of the guidance, which can also be accessed here.
Centres will also need to ensure that grading data information i.e. the assessment grade profiles as well as the overall unit grade profile and grade is collated, kept up to date and stored so that it is accessible and made available to the AVA upon our request. Further information relating to this will follow shortly.
If you need to discuss these arrangements in more detail, please contact Pam Stanway with any questions at
