Open College Network West Midlands Centres: Lifetime learning for all

Active Learning Support

Alan Leighton has found working with Open College Network West Midlands a huge benefit in raising the profile of his company – Active Learning Support Ltd.
'Open College Network West Midlands have supported ALS throughout the process of writing our own accredited courses and in gaining recognition as a Centre in our own right.  The professional approach of our designated Business Manager, Sue Burton, has helped us to achieve our own goals’

Engaging young people through exciting & thought provoking project work!
Active Learning Support Ltd (ALS) is a training provider with a real difference.  They don’t focus on text books to teach but provide a hands on experience using radio controlled model vehicles to introduce the subject of engineering to their learners.
ALS provides tailor made programmes to meet the needs of their learners – these can be a one off session through to weekly lessons scheduled over a number of weeks.  Learners acquire an introduction to the subject of engineering with a focus on battery knowledge – a key factor in the emerging subject of low carbon technologies.
Learners are also introduced to skills such as team working, leadership, hand to eye co-ordination, respect for others – and the really clever part is that they don’t realise that they are learning because they are having so much fun!
ALS commenced business in 2011 and were introduced to Open College Network West Midlands by one of their clients who were keen to provide a form of accreditation to their students whilst experiencing one of our programmes.  Open College Network West Midlands were an ideal fit to the way we work and the appointment of Sue Burton as our Business Development Manager helped to make sure we were fully briefed of the process at every step.
Very quickly ALS were successful in obtaining accreditation for a Level 1 course in Making a Product which immediately succeeded in enrolling learners who all enjoyed, learned and passed their course.
This success drove us on and we quickly found ourselves looking to develop our next subject which revolved around Remote Control Model Cars and has been successfully accredited as an Entry Level 3 course.  This time we were thrilled at the support provided and how quickly we achieved approval so much so that we decided to investigate what would be required to become a recognised Centre in our own right.  Again our Business Development Manager was immediately on hand to guide us through the process and we were delighted to achieve status as a Open College Network West Midlands Recognised Centre earlier on this year.
